What matcha latte tastes like

The fact that matcha latte is usually prepared with a larger amount of milk means that many of the tea's subtle flavor nuances cannot be perceived. Therefore it is not advisableto use absolute premium tea for preparation. Entry-level qualities are completely sufficient and can assert themselves better against milk with their predominantly more bitter, nutty character.

Our Matcha Itsutsu is therefore the ideal choice for preparation. Its fruity and fresh character, together with the pronounced nutty note, make it the ideal accompaniment to milk. Properly prepared, the tea is creamy and frothy on its own, but as a matcha latte irresistible.

The right preparation

First of all, you need the right accessories. Having the right tools to hand makes a big difference. Here's what you need:

  • Matcha: You need high-quality matcha tea. The quality of the matcha plays a major role in the taste of your latte. We recommend our Itsutsu or Basic Lineboth stand up excellently to milk (alternatives).
  • Matcha whisk & spoon: These special utensils help you to mix your matcha correctly and measure out the right amount.
  • Strainer: A fine sieve ensures that your matcha is lump-free.
  • Bowl with and without spout: A bowl with a spout makes it easier to decant your tea. A bowl without a spout is also ideal for a ready-to-drink end result.

  3. Add 100ml of 80°C warm water to the paste and mix with a whisk. bamboo whisk to a frothy tea

Finally, our insider tip: try a variation with our premium matcha teas Futatsu and Hitotsu. Prepare the tea traditionally, as described in the link above, but then add one or two tablespoons of milk foam to give the matcha a fine crown. This only minimally changes the taste of the fine tea. However, the milk makes the consistency even creamier and the subtle nuances of flavour are accentuated by the fat in the milk. Simply heavenly.
