History & Region

Find out exactly what matcha is here.

A smooth and well-rounded organic matcha from the renowned Nishio tea region in Aichi. Along with Kagoshima, Aichi Prefecture is known for producing Japan’s finest organic matcha teas. Thanks to its excellent climate and ideal soil conditions, the region is perfectly suited for growing green tea—and tencha in particular. More than 25% of Japan’s total matcha production comes from this area. Thanks to a special blend of nutrient-rich, organic fertilizers, the tea develops a particularly deep green color and very delicate, unique aromas. You can find more information about the individual growing regions and their distinctive features here. To cultivate our organic Futatsu matcha, the plants are fully shaded (>90%) for at least four weeks. Due to this near-total deprivation of light, the tencha develops a uniquely mellow character with subtle fruity and nutty notes. The leaves from the first harvest are hand-picked, gently dried, and then traditionally ground on granite stone mills. Due to the powder’s extremely fine texture, the matcha mixes quickly and easily, forming a firm and dense crema. Thanks to its mild and subtle character, our Futatsu is suitable for both Usucha (thin tea) and Koicha (thick tea). The powder is particularly rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and high-quality proteins. The matcha is sourced directly from the farmer in Japan. In addition to meeting the requirements of the organic certification body, each batch is tested for radioactive contamination by a German laboratory.

Shelf Life & Storage

The green tea is delivered in an airtight, heat-sealed package.

The tea can be stored for up to two years without any problems. We’ve provided more information on this here.

For matcha only: Because it is ground so finely, the powder is highly susceptible to external factors such as light, oxygen, and heat. The tea should therefore always be stored in a tightly sealed container in a place away from direct sunlight.

ALL THE BENEFITS AT A GLANCE

Why We Love Matcha.

Natural Energy Drink

The caffeine in matcha is bound, so it has a gentler and longer-lasting effect. One cup of matcha = about one cup of coffee

Sweet & Floral

A smooth, well-rounded, and subtle matcha with a noticeable umami flavor and a creamy mouthfeel. Best enjoyed on its own.
