A chasen is indispensable for the traditional preparation of matcha tea. The delicate bristles allow the tea to be whisked finer and better than with any other utensil. To prepare the tea, 1-2 grams of matcha powder are mixed with a sip of water to form a fine paste. Then add 50-70 ml of water to the paste and run the whisk through the liquid with quick w-shaped movements. After a short time, a firm and fine foam forms on the tea.

The broom is made by hand from a single piece of bamboo. The production of these filigree tools is a rare Asian craft and requires a great deal of experience and time. The chasen is made from shiny, golden bamboo. This material is a classic for Japanese tea accessories and its color matches the vibrant green of the matcha very well. The bamboo whisk has 100 very finely crafted bristles and is particularly suitable for preparing usucha (liquid tea) and koicha (thick tea).

To increase the longevity of the bamboo broom, it should be soaked in lukewarm water for several minutes before use. This will make the bamboo material more flexible and the bristles less stressed. Please do not use washing-up liquid for cleaning. Simply rinse the Chasen briefly with cold water and then leave to dry on a cloth. Ideally, the broom should be placed on a broom holder to dry. This will preserve the shape of the broom for longer.
